Post of Mobile Application Developer / Web Developer
Fixed Term for 2 years
The post of Mobile Application Developer / Web Developer will be responsible for:
Developing, researching and employing new technologies and applications relevant to the aims of the projects;
Keep up to date with new and upcoming technologies and hardware features on the iOS/Android platform so that as a team and as an individual we can incorporate these into new projects;
Ensure best practice and performance for the final application in terms of speed, memory consumption and those detailed in Apple/Android documentation;
Working with project teams, and independently, to prepare online interactive learning materials for use on the internal/external sites, e.g. HWB, Learning Wales;
Ensuring that the mobile application meet the requirements of the University’s Web Standards policy;
This post requires the person to be self taught, self-motivated, and a team worker;
Ensuring that the mobile application displays accurately on different types of mobile interfaces;
Managing their own time and projects. All the work completed is client facing and therefore often subject to tight deadlines, so meticulous approach is required.

Researcher: Policy Observatory Project (Temporary)
The Wales Centre for Equity in Education wishes to appoint a Researcher to assist them until March 2014 (with potential for extension subject to funding). The Researcher will support the work of the Centre in developing a Policy Observatory focused on Poverty and Educational Disadvantage in Wales.
The project is funded through the four Regional Education Consortia in Wales and during the funding period will:
- Develop rich case-studies from around Wales on examples where schools, family engagement programmes and community-based initiatives are contributing to overcoming the impact of poverty on educational achievement.
- Develop an experimental-design research methodology to enable in future robust trialling and evaluation to take place of promising interventions designed to overcome the impact of poverty on achievement.
The Researcher will have relevant experience at postgraduate level, a PhD in an area relevant to education research and experience of writing for publication and giving presentations.
Considerable travel to different parts of Wales will be required and, therefore, the Associate will be required to have a clean driving licence and their own transport.
The appointment will be on Grade 7, £32,267 – 37,382 pro rata.
